    All of the Pilates exercises that you are learning are part of Mr. Pilates’ Contrology system, the art of control, or the complete coordination of the body, mind and spirit. They are contrology exercises, to be performed in a specific manner and order. Pilates said that “Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.”

    In his books, Your Health, and Return to Life Through Contrology  you see how his ideology is based on the Roman motto “Mens sana in corpore sano” (A sane mind in a sound body).
